Antichrist Superstar hatte auf mich damals eine ähnliche Wirkung wie NIN ‚The Downward Spiral‘. Das lag natürlich zum einen daran, dass es genau auf in die Blüte miner Adoleszenz fiel aber auch daran, dass ich damals bezgl. strategisch lancierter Schockmeldungen (die sicher auch Teil der Vermarktung des Albums waren) weniger voreingenommen war.

Aber 1996 war das ja auch noch eine ganz andere Medienwelt als heute und mit etwas Distanz war Manson halt der Alice Cooper der 90s Kids und nicht der Satan persönlich. Wie auch immer, die Platte zählt definitiv zu den prägenden Alben meines Musiklebens und sie ist schlicht und einfach richtig gut, bis heute. An equally theatrical experiment in schlock metal, new wave, goth, and industrial rock, Marilyn Manson’s 1996 album Antichrist Superstar made him public enemy number one in a brewing American culture war. Co-produced by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, the concept CD did exactly as the title foretold, making Manson a superstar and–in the eyes of the Christian right–the Antichrist itself.
